Langhe DOC

Langhe DOC: a territory, a thousand expressions
History and origins
The high number of grape varieties cultivated in this area is justified by its complex soil and climatic conditions. This designation has stimulated the creativity of producers, who, through the so-called “estate wines,” have created new commercial opportunities.
Established in 1994, this DOC represents the entire Langhe and Roero area, a unique territory worldwide for its beauty and rich winemaking tradition.
Production area
The geographical area extends across the rolling hills of Langhe in the province of Cuneo and includes numerous municipalities in Roero, covering a total of 96 towns.
Organoleptic characteristics
Langhe DOC is a broad and versatile designation, allowing the production of red, white, and rosé wines, made from both native and international grape varieties. Among the most representative wines are Langhe Bianco and Langhe Rosso, blends that best express the richness and complexity of this territory.
Within the DOC, the three main categories are: Langhe Bianco, Langhe Rosso and Langhe Rosato.
Comprendono vini prodotti con vinificazione in purezza o in assemblaggio di tutti i vitigni coltivati nella These categories include wines made either from single-varietal vinification or blends of all grapes cultivated within the production area. When a single variety comprises more than 85% of the blend, its name may be indicated on the label alongside “Langhe,” giving rise to the following types:
WHITE WINES
- Langhe Arneis
- Langhe Favorita

The most widely produced variety (about 45% of total production) is Langhe Nebbiolo, which allows for more flexible interpretations compared to Barolo and Barbaresco.
Two varieties that have been gaining popularity since the 1990s are those linked to the rediscovery of Nascetta, the only native white grape variety from the Barolo area: Langhe Nascetta DOC and Langhe Nascetta del Comune di Novello DOC.
Nascetta produces fresh, aromatic white wines with citrus, white flower, and herbal notes. The “del Comune di Novello” designation indicates a more restricted and controlled production area, with characteristics that are even more expressive of the territory.

- Langhe Nascetta DOC: The entire DOC zone
- Langhe Nascetta del Comune di Novello DOC: Produced exclusively from 100% Nascetta grapes grown within the municipality of Novello.
