Diano d’Alba DOCG: the Sorì of Dolcetto

History and origins

Diano d’Alba DOCG is a unique wine produced exclusively in the municipality of the same name, located on a hill at an altitude of 500 meters. The passion of local producers for Dolcetto and the experience passed down through generations have led to the precise selection of the best parcels for cultivating this grape, with boundaries officially set as early as 1986.

Production area

Diano d’Alba DOCG is produced exclusively in the municipality of Diano d’Alba.

Organoleptic characteristics

Diano d’Alba has an intense ruby red color with violet reflections. Its aroma is fragrant and fruity, with notes of Marasca cherry and sometimes blackberry or jam. The taste is dry, lively, and crisp, with a pleasant bitter almond aftertaste. This wine has unique aromatic characteristics, making it enjoyable when young but also suitable for moderate aging. The “Superiore” designation is reserved for wines aged for at least 18 months.

Geographic mentions

The most suitable areas for viticulture in the municipality of Diano d’Alba are called “sörì,” a dialect term meaning “well-exposed place.” In 2010, the Consortium proposed to the Ministry of Agriculture to recognize the 76 “sörì” present in the municipality as Additional Geographic Mentions, similar to what was done for Barolo.
