Wine Tasting Experience®: 2015 season restarts from Vinum!

Posted on: June 9th, 2015 by Mario Ferrero

In April, the guided tastings of Strada del Barolo return with an initial schedule of events during the traditional spring event of Alba. In May and June the tastings will continue in the castles of Roddi and Barolo.

Having become, in the last few years, an appointment not to be missed for hundreds of wine lovers visiting Langhe, the Wine Tasting Experience®, an original tasting format devised by Strada del Barolo, returns in spring with a calendar that will begin Saturday, April 25th, 2015 and continue through to June 13th, 2015. Thanks to the renewed collaboration with Ente Fiera Internazionale del Tartufo Bianco d’Alba, which organizes the annual Alba Truffle Fair, the first events will be held as part of the 39th Vinum edition, highlight of the Piedmontese wine making spring, with a short format lasting an hour, keeping with the model already tested at the previous Truffle Fair.

Format

Following the example of the French Ecole Du Vin, the Wine Tasting Experience® goes beyond traditional wine tasting in a single producer’s cellar, a common experience for all wine tourists, and gives the opportunity to compare labels from different producers in a single appointment.

The presence of territory experts who are able to reveal the secrets of wine and ready to satisfy any curiosity, is the main added value for attending wine lovers: the “teachers” are indeed skilled producers, oenologists and sommeliers who can guide the audience through a sensory journey that starts with what the consumer perceives in a wine to better understand the features and learn how to best use their own senses.

Questions from the audience, insights, tips on tasting, wine from a variety of producers and, not least, the prestigious locations in which the tastings are held: all these elements make the Wine Tasting Experience® a new way to approach wine knowledge and provide a unique opportunity to delve into the details of the wine growing and production of Langhe and Roero. Also, to make the experience even more interactive, since last year, teachers now use a supporting video rich in infographics and interactive maps that participants can consult directly on their mobile devices during the tastings. The content access is also possible on the day following the Wine Tasting Experience®.

With a special eye on the growing number of foreign wine tourists, the Wine Tasting Experience® is also led in English, to meet the needs of wine-lovers from around the world interested in knowing, in depth, the wine growing territory and its production.

Locations

In addition to Palazzo Mostre e Congressi of Alba, where the special appointment within Vinim will be held, the other locations that will host the tasting will be the Castle of Roddi, confirmed as the main venue of the Wine Tasting Experiences®, and the Castle of Barolo, which will be the setting of the Wine Tasting Experience®, organized to celebrate the twinning between Comitato per la valorizzazione dei castelli delle Langhe e del Roero and Parchi del Ducato di Parma e Piacenza together with Unione Montana Appennino Parma Est.

Topics

“The Taste of the Hills” and “The Crus of the King” are the themes that will alternate during this spring season. “The Taste of the Hills” is an introductory journey among the most characteristic productions of Piedmont, with the tasting of six different wines: Arneis, Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo, Barolo and Moscato; “The Crus of the King” is a journey punctuated by a tasting of five different Barolo labels.

In addition to the “regular” appointments , it is always possible to organize a Wine Tasting Experience® customized exclusively for groups of at least six people, who can decide, together with the organizers, dates, times, locations, languages (besides Italian: English, French and German) and, of course, the choice of the wines to taste!

A further opportunity is offered during major events taking place in the Langhe region: on Saturday 30th May 2015 a special Wine Tasting Experience® is planned in conjunction with “Io, Barolo”, the event organized by Strada del Barolo to celebrate the new Barolo vintage together with all the associated producers, which, of course, will feature the King of Wines …

Immagine2

By virtue of the common wine and food vocation and the beauty of the respective landscapes, both dominated by beautiful castles and natural scenery, Comitato per la valorizzazione dei castelli delle Langhe e del Roero and Parchi del Ducato di Parma e Piacenza together with Unione Montana Appennino Parma Est are about to sign a twinning, supported by Fondazione CRC, which will materialize throughout 2015 with a series of exchanges between the two areas hosting each other during the respective territory fairs: on 23rd and 24th May in Alba, during the “Spring of culture, taste and wine” and on 2nd June at the Medieval Festival of Torrechiara (in the province of Parma).

To celebrate the twinning, which will be formalized in Alba on the weekend of 23rd and 24th May 2015, Strada del Barolo is planning a special Wine Tasting Experience® in the Barolo Castle and a dinner with an inter-regional menu at the restaurant “La Crota” of Roddi. Both initiatives will be held on Saturday, 23rd May, while on Sunday, 24th May, the castles of Langhe and Roero and the territories of Piacenza and Parma will present themselves in Piazza Risorgimento in Alba with activities for children and adults.

Furthermore, the cooperation between the two entities includes the realization of educational tours and training sessions, an exchange of visibility on the respective websites and the joint promotion of the two territories for what concerns the foreign market.

Huge attendance at the castle of Roddi for “Io, Barolo – la nuit”

Posted on: June 16th, 2014 by Mario Ferrero

The rain couldn’t put off the Barolo lovers: on Saturday 14th June, more than 200 wine lovers arrived from different regions to celebrate the new vintage of the “King of Wines” together with the producers of Strada del Barolo.

In spite of the bad weather forecasts, the leading event organized by Strada del Barolo and Grandi Vini di Langa, in cooperation with Municipality and the Board for the Territory Promotion, attracted hundreds of wine lovers from all around Italy and abroad.

Some unique Wine Tasting Experiences® on the 2000 Barolo opened the event, turning it into an extraordinary event which gave the opportunity to the lucky participants to not only taste 5 different Barolo labels of the 2000 vintage, but to also profit from the presence of three amazing speakers. In fact, the tastings were led by: Gianluca Colombo, young wine technician, winner of the 2014 edition of the Gambelli award; he hosted the guided tasting together with Danilo Drocco, oenologist since 1999 in Fontanafredda, one of the most important Italian wine companies and flagship for the entire Langa region, and Mauro Daniele, vice-president of Strada del Barolo and owner of the wine company “Le Strette” of Novello, which he has managed since 1997, after more than 25 years experience with the “Ceretto” wine company.

At the end of the Wine Tasting Experience®, the wine enthusiasts started packing the historical cellars of the Castle of Roddi to take part in the thematic tasting of the 2010 Barolo, with the bottles of some thirty cellars of Strada del Barolo served by the producers themselves who, for the entire night, alternated behind the tasting counter, remaining at the disposal of the guests to answer questions and help them in discovering the “King of wines”.

On the upper floor, the protagonists were the other great wines of Langa, served together with traditional dishes (raw meat and agnolotti with black truffle and hazelnut pie) prepared by the chef Danilo Lorusso of the restaurant La Crota of Roddi and the delicious cheeses produced by Amaltea, a company member of Consorzio per la Tutela del Robiola di Roccaverano D.O.P. A set by DJ Pony, with the theme of an “Electro-Swing Night”, livened up the entire event.

The public also showed great interest for the guided tour in the Castle of Roddi: throughout the entire evening, the guides of Turismo in Langa toured some 80 people allowing them to discover the majestic building which dates back to the 12th century.

We thank all the participants for joining us and goodbye until next year!

Wine Tasting Experience®

Posted on: February 22nd, 2013 by Mario Ferrero

The best local experts will be describing the great wines of the Langhe together with their producers.

The Wine Tasting Experience ® is an original tasting event that Strada del Barolo and Consorzio di tutela Barolo Barbaresco organize both for wine-lovers who choose Langhe for their holidays, and wine enthusiasts from all around Europe, who will have the opportunity to attend special events organized in the main capital cities.

Four ways to experience wine

The Wine Tasting Experiences are available all year round, set to four different “formats”: in Italy and abroad, in prearranged dates or completely tailored. The aim is to meet the different needs of the wine lovers.

The first format, the more “traditional”, is the seasonal double calendar with appointments in spring andautumn in some of the most prestigious venues of Langhe: from WiMu to MODA, including wineries and wine shops of the area.

The second option allows tailored tastings for groups of at least six people, who can decide together with the organizers, dates, time, locations and languages (besides Italian: English, French and German) and of course the types of wine to taste.

A third possibility is offered during the great events organized in the Langhe territory: both for Vinum (in May) and the International White Truffle Fair of Alba (October and November) several special appointments are scheduled and included in the event’s calendars.

The fourth format is connected with events for the promotion of Piedmontese wines or during nights dedicated to the regional food and wine products in the main European capitals: already confirmed are the appointments in Brussels and Copenhagen. Also scheduled, in 2013, are Stockholm, Geneva, Zurich, St. Gallen and others – including an event in China.

The Wine Tasting Experiences in Europe are often followed by friendly gatherings and dinners in the capitals’ restaurants. These offer the perfect occasion to talk about Piedmont which, through Barolo and other great wines, reveals everything it can offer: food, wines, tourist destinations and cultural programmes. The result is a promotional initiative of great effect.

Beyond the traditional tasting

Following the example of the French Ecoles du Vin, the experiences will go beyond the traditional tasting in the winery, a classic activity for every wine tourist, most importantly because they will offer the chance totaste bottles from different winemakers at the same time.

The experiences will be led by winemakers, oenologists or experienced sommeliers, each with their own personal point of view, offering insights into the bouquet of a specific glass, pairings between food and wine and the wine’s characteristics in relation to where the vines were grown.
