IO, BAROLO la nuit – 2015 edition

Saturday 30th May 2015, at the Roddi Castle, the traditional appointment to celebrate the new vintage of the “King of Wines” returns together with all the producers members of Strada del Barolo e Grandi Vini di Langa.

How will the 2011 Barolo be? Find out in advance on Saturday 30th May in the beautiful setting of Roddi Castle which, for the third consecutive year, will host “Io, Barolo – la nuit”, the highly awaited event organized by Strada del Barolo to celebrate the new Barolo vintage together with all the producers who, through their work, continue to make this wine a great wine.

From 6.30pm to 10.00pm, with the admission ticket to the Castle Garden, the public will have the opportunity to taste at least thirty different Barolo labels of the 2011 vintage from the wine-producing members of della Strada del Barolo, who will also be available to answer any questions. Each participant will receive a stem glass as a gift to take home as an evening memento.

The ticket will also include a guided tour inside Roddi Castle, led by a tourist guide approved by the association Turismo in Langa.

Simultaneously, in Piazza Umberto I, the protagonists will be the other great wines of Langa which, for the entire evening, will be served paired with a selection of local traditional products. It will also be possible to buy single dishes matched with the great wines, choosing between important red and fresh white wines. Starting from 10:00pm there will be musical entertainment with con Enrico Botti and Nicolas J. Roncea who will perform in a concert with two guitars and vocals, performing cover songs and songs of their own.

Also for this edition a special Wine Tasting Experience®, with the “The Barolo Crus”, will be proposed at 5.00pm as an event preview.

The event is organized by the Strada del Barolo e Grandi Vini di Langa, thanks to the collaboration of Municipality and Pro Loco of Roddi, Turismo in Langa, A.S.D. Monforte Barolo Boys, Verduno è Uno, Strada del Riso Vercellese di Qualità, Consorzio per la Tutela del formaggio Robiola di Roccaverano D.O.P., Ristorante La Crota, La cucina di Pina.

Huge attendance at the castle of Roddi for “Io, Barolo – la nuit”

The rain couldn’t put off the Barolo lovers: on Saturday 14th June, more than 200 wine lovers arrived from different regions to celebrate the new vintage of the “King of Wines” together with the producers of Strada del Barolo.

In spite of the bad weather forecasts, the leading event organized by Strada del Barolo and Grandi Vini di Langa, in cooperation with Municipality and the Board for the Territory Promotion, attracted hundreds of wine lovers from all around Italy and abroad.

Some unique Wine Tasting Experiences® on the 2000 Barolo opened the event, turning it into an extraordinary event which gave the opportunity to the lucky participants to not only taste 5 different Barolo labels of the 2000 vintage, but to also profit from the presence of three amazing speakers. In fact, the tastings were led by: Gianluca Colombo, young wine technician, winner of the 2014 edition of the Gambelli award; he hosted the guided tasting together with Danilo Drocco, oenologist since 1999 in Fontanafredda, one of the most important Italian wine companies and flagship for the entire Langa region, and Mauro Daniele, vice-president of Strada del Barolo and owner of the wine company “Le Strette” of Novello, which he has managed since 1997, after more than 25 years experience with the “Ceretto” wine company.

At the end of the Wine Tasting Experience®, the wine enthusiasts started packing the historical cellars of the Castle of Roddi to take part in the thematic tasting of the 2010 Barolo, with the bottles of some thirty cellars of Strada del Barolo served by the producers themselves who, for the entire night, alternated behind the tasting counter, remaining at the disposal of the guests to answer questions and help them in discovering the “King of wines”.

On the upper floor, the protagonists were the other great wines of Langa, served together with traditional dishes (raw meat and agnolotti with black truffle and hazelnut pie) prepared by the chef Danilo Lorusso of the restaurant La Crota of Roddi and the delicious cheeses produced by Amaltea, a company member of Consorzio per la Tutela del Robiola di Roccaverano D.O.P. A set by DJ Pony, with the theme of an “Electro-Swing Night”, livened up the entire event.

The public also showed great interest for the guided tour in the Castle of Roddi: throughout the entire evening, the guides of Turismo in Langa toured some 80 people allowing them to discover the majestic building which dates back to the 12th century.

Saturday 14th June 2014 sees the return of the highly anticipated event “Io, Barolo – La Nuit”, to celebrate the 2010 vintage of the “King of Wines” with all the wine-producing members of Strada del Barolo.

After the great success of the 2013 edition of “Io, Barolo”, which took place for the first time during the evening hours, the celebration returns once again this year and is organized by Strada del Barolo to celebrate the new Barolo vintage together with all the producers who, with their job, continue to make this wine a great wine.

On Saturday 14th June 2014, the amazing setting of the Castle of Roddi will once again host the event which, from 6.30pm to 12pm, will be the location of a big festival for tourists and residents, with particular attention paid to the youngest people!

Also this year, the event will be divided into two different but nearby areas: the anciant cellars of the Castle, with a big stall dedicated to the thematic tasting of the 2010 Barolo, and the ground floor, in the premises of the Castle recently restored, where public and producers will have the opportunity to taste great wines together with traditional dishes of Langa.

As event preview, in the afternoon, two special appointments with the Wine Tasting Experience®: only for this occasion, the participants will have the unique opportunity to taste a SELECTION OF 5 DIFFERENT LABELS OF BAROLO 2000. The tastings will take place at 3.00pm in English and at 5.00pm in Italian in the exclusive seat of the Cooking School of the Castle of Roddi.

From 18.30 to 22.00, with the admission ticket to the anciant cellars the public will have the opportunity to taste a great number of Barolo labels of the 2010 vintage from the wine-producing members of Strada del Barolo, who will also be available to answer any questions. Each participant will receive a stem glass as a gift to take home as memento of the event. In addition, from 19.00, the visitors will have the opportunity to take a guided tour inside the Caste of Roddi, accompanied by a tourist guide of the association Turismo in Langa.

In the ground floor the protagonists will be the other great wines of Langa which, for the entire evening, will be served paired with a selection of local traditional products. It will also be possible to buy single dishes matched with the great wines, choosing between important red and fresh white wines.

To enliven the evening, starting from 22.00, will be staged “Electro-Swing Night” with DJ Pony (Feel Good Productions) and at 24.00, at the end of the event, will be projected the World Cup football match Italy-England.

Enthusiastic participation for the 2013 edition of “Io, Barolo”

The most important event of the year organized by “Strada del Barolo” has been a huge success with several hundred participants at the tasting of Barolo 2009 and to the party with the producers in Umberto I square.

The new formula of “Io, Barolo” has proved successful: the event, organized in the evening and aimed at a younger and informal target, drew in Roddi hundreds of wine-lovers from all over Italy and beyond. The peolple have flocked to the garden in the beautiful setting of the Castle of Roddi to take part in thematic tasting of Barolo 2009, with the bottles of thirty producers members of “Strada del Barolo”. The impeccable service of two AIS sommelier, and the possibility to combine the king of wines with a taste of Castelmagno cheese offered by “Produttori Alta Valle Grana” make it even more enjoyable the experience of the participants.

The audience showed great interest also for the visits of the Roddi Castle: throughout the evening the guides have accompanied more than one hundred people to explore the impressive manor house, dating from the XIIcentury.

A few steps away, at the foot of the Castle, in Umberto I square the party continued thanks to the active collaboration of the Pro Loco and restaurateurs of Roddi: music, dishes and other great wines of Langa were the protagonists of an unforgettable evening.

A night open to everybody, tourists and residents, with a particular attention to the youngest members of the public: this will be the soul of the new edition of “Io, Barolo”, which will take place in Roddi on the 1st June 2013, from 6:30pm to 12pm.

The event will be set in two areas: the garden of the castle, with a huge counter dedicated to the thematic tasting of the 2009 Barolo, and piazza Umberto I, the hearth of the feast, where public and producers will have the opportunity to taste the great wines of Langa together with traditional dishes created by the chefs of the Roddi restaurants.

With tickets bought at the entrance to the castle garden, the public will have the possibility to taste a great number of labels of the 2009 Barolo vintage with the producers and members of Strada del Barolo, with the prestigious service of the professional AIS sommeliers. All participants will receive both a stem glass with the logo of Strada del Barolo as a present to remember the evening, and a taste of the Castelmagno cheese offered by the producers of Alta Valle Grana to match to the wines. Moreover, they will receive a tour; a special guided visit, led by the touristic guides of the Association Turismo in Langa.

The feast involves the other great wines of Langa which, in Piazza Umberto I, at the feet of the castle, will be served, for the entire evening, and matched with dishes made with traditional products prepared thanks to the active cooperation with the Pro Loco, the tourist office, of Roddi in partnership with the Roddi restaurateurs. The “wine tellers” (Narratori del Vino®) will serve and present the wines, by explaining them with a new, innovative and young way to attract the public. The attending producers, this time, will be on the public side of the table but, if needed, will be available and ready to answer any questions. The public will also have the possibility to buy the single dishes matched with the great wines, by choosing between important red wines or fresh whites.

During the whole evening, music from a DJ set will surround the entire square.

Two prestigious taverns of the Slow food Alliance of Chefs and Presidia. Will be guests of two restaurants of the Barolo Langa. 

During the month of events dedicated to the new vintage of Barolo 2008, “Io Barolo”, organized and promoted by Strada del Barolo e grandi vini di Langa in cooperation with Enoteca Regionale del Barolo, there will be two food events that are not to be missed.

Thanks to the cooperation with Slow Food, two prestigious osterie, taverns in Italian, of the Slow Food Alliance of Chefs and Presidia will be guests of two restaurants of the Barolo Langa for the second consecutive year.
The Slow Food Alliance represents a great supportive net where Italian chefs meet and make an agreement with the Slow Food Presidia producers, in order to commit themselves in cooking and emphasize the products of their territory and to promote them into the other Italian regions.
The chefs of the Alliance embrace the Slow Food philosophy: they choose local raw materials, respect the seasons, work directly with small producers, to know and enhance them. They take pleasure in creating great dishes and being responsible towards those who produce raw materials thus obtaining food that is not only good, genuine, natural and clean but also fair, respecting those who have produced, grown and raised it.

And so, Wednesday 13th June Osteria Mangiando Mangiando of Greve in Chianti (Florence) will be the guest of the chef of Rosso Barolo in Barolo.

While on Wednesday 27th June, Restaurant Café Castel Ringberg of Kaltern will be the guest of Ristorante La Crota di Roddi.

The result of this initiative will be two excellent menus, each created by two chefs together, where the Piedmontese cuisine will join that of the Italian guest region and where the dishes will be matched with the most prestigious Piedmontese wines. And of course, on the table, a wine will not be absent: Barolo 2008.

HAPPY HOUR WITH THE MERCATOR VINARIUS

Associazione Turismo in Langa, in cooperation with Cantina Anselma Giacomo, for the event of Strada del Barolo e Grandi Vini di Langa “IO Barolo”, organizes a happy hour, apericena in Italian, with entertainment and a night-time visit to Serralunga d’Alba (CN), one of the villages belonging to the union of municipalities bound together by wine and cultural traditions.

To discover all the secrets of the Barolo Langa wines, and to listen to stories and anecdotes on the ancient wines of the Roman period, thanks to a special story teller, a time travelling merchant from ancient Pollentia, who will appear, as if by magic, among the guests to entertain them with his gift of the gab.

The Happy hour with the mercator vinarius will be an opportunity to taste a buffet, that in Piemontese dialect is called merenda sinoira, with cold dishes and appetizers made with products of Langa matched with red wines produced by Cantina Anselma Giacomo.
The public will be able to listen to the stories of a strange character, a lover of good drinking as well as history and architecture. With a full stomach, at the end of the merenda sinoira, a late afternoon snack in Piedmontese dialect, the mercator vinarius will take part in an evocative guided night tour to the historical centre of Serralunga d’Alba.
There will be the opportunity to admire the medieval castle, right to the base of its majestic tower, walk across the arches of Porta Alba and Porta Roddi, up to the church of San Sebastiano, and then back to the cellar for a last farewell toast and a final look at the breathtaking view of the hills.

The trails of Barolo

In every corner of La Morra there will be tastings of  Barolo DOCG 2008 and other great wines of Langa, together with traditional products. In the afternoon, street artists will entertain the children at the panoramic viewpoint.
A huge open-air party with more than 30 producers from the 11 municipalities of the Barolo Langa: walking in La Morra will be like taking a stroll on the Strada del Barolo e Grandi Vini di Langa, the Trail that connects the places where the Great wines of Langa are produced.
