Training course - gen 2025

Dialoghi tra vignaioli 2025

January 22, February 20, April 14, 2025: three training meetings aimed at producers to share experiences in the vineyard and in the cellar

The current context increasingly imposes the need for wine producers to open up and discuss in order to team up with each other on various fronts, from different techniques and experiences in the vineyard and in the cellar to wine communication, but also to meet to consolidate relationships and friendships, with a view to collaboration.

To take up this challenge and building on the success of the first three editions, between January and April 2025 the Strada del Barolo is offering three training meetings aimed at producers to explore topics of common interest and increase opportunities for exchange.

During the first event, scheduled for Wednesday 22 January 2025 at the Castello di Perno, there will be the now customary tasting of Nebbiolo suitable for Barolo 2024 from the tank, conducted by Prof. Vincenzo Gerbi, full professor of Food Science and Technology at the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Food Sciences of the University of Turin.

The second meeting, which will be held on Thursday 20 February 2025 in the Temple of the Wine Tourist at the WiMu – Wine Museum in Barolo, will feature the exceptional participation of Carlin Petrini, founder and international president of Slow Food, who will hold an open dialogue with Lorenzo Olivero and Emanuela Bolla, president and vice president of the Strada del Barolo, on the theme “Langhe between roots and future: how to safeguard one’s identity”, a comparison between generations that is vital for healthy and sustainable growth.

The last appointment, scheduled for Monday 14 April 2025, will focus on the delicate topic of “Wine and Health” and will be curated by Prof. Vincenzo Gerbi and Dr. Attilio Giacosa, gastroenterologist and President of IRVAS.

The scheduled activities include active involvement by the producers themselves: each event will include a visit to a winery that will be available to open its doors for the occasion. The meetings will also offer various tasting opportunities, such as sampling the 2023 Barolo Nebbiolos (directly from the vat).

MEETING PROGRAM:

Wednesday, January 22, 2025, 5:00 p.m.
Castello di Perno, Loc. Castelletto 33, Monforte d’Alba (CN)

How Barolo is developing in the tank

By Prof. Vincenzo Gerbi, Full Professor of Food Science and Technology at the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Food Sciences of the University of Turin.

The usual and eagerly awaited tasting of Nebbiolo suitable for Barolo, from the tank (2024 harvest) from a single vineyard, guided and commented by Prof. Vincenzo Gerbi.

From the sensory profile of the young wine, it is possible to judge how the 2024 harvest went and to plan interventions and/or corrective measures for the wine, but also suggestions for the management of the vineyard in view of the next harvest.

The samples will be analyzed before the meeting to allow the professor to make structured assessments on trends, climate impacts, etc.

Program:

  • 5:00 pm: visit to the host winery
  • 5:45 pm: comparison, discussion and tasting of samples of Nebbiolo suitable for becoming Barolo (2024 harvest), guided and commented by Prof. Vincenzo Gerbi. Moderated by Lorenzo Olivero, President of the Strada del Barolo
Followed by a friendship dinner at the Gennaro di Pace restaurant in Perno di Monforte d’Alba (CN)

Thursday, February 20, 2025, 5:30 p.m.
WiMu – Museo del Vino a Barolo, Castello Comunale Falletti, P.za Falletti, Barolo (CN)

Langhe between roots and future: how to safeguard your identity

The protagonist of the meeting was Carlin Petrini, founder and international president of Slow Food, creator of the Salone del Gusto in Turin, of the Terra Madre network and of the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo.

The extraordinary success that the Langhe have achieved over the years raises a question about the preservation of the identity of this iconic and wonderful territory, which today faces new challenges linked for example to climate change, the rapid increase in tourist flows and the uncontrolled growth of land prices. The meeting therefore aims to look to the past, analyzing the social, cultural and economic changes that have occurred over the decades, in order to reflect on the cultural identity of the Langhe, an invaluable heritage to be preserved at all costs, while welcoming progress and innovation, which can bring many benefits to local communities, but must be governed wisely. An open dialogue between producers, restaurateurs and the local community to stimulate a collective reflection on how tradition and innovation can be reconciled while keeping the identity values of this territory intact.

Program:

  • 5:00 PM: Registration
  • 5:30 PM: Introduction by Daniele Manzone, director of Strada del Barolo
  • 5:45 PM: Open dialogue between Carlin Petrini, Lorenzo Olivero and Emanuela Bolla, president and vice president of Strada del Barolo

Participation in this meeting is free and open to all interested wineries, hoteliers and operators, with priority given to members of the Strada del Barolo e grandi vini di Langa. To participate, you must register using the membership form and wait for confirmation: REGISTRATIONS CLOSED

Wine and Health: a meeting to clarify

With the aim of exploring topics of common interest and increasing opportunities for exchange between Piedmontese wine producers, on Monday 14 April 2025 at 5:00 pm, Strada del Barolo is organizing a meeting, in collaboration with the I Vini del Piemonte promotion consortium, at the Boroli winery in Castiglione Falletto (CN), on the topic of “Wine and Health” with Dr. Attilio Giacosa, gastroenterologist and President of IRVAS, and with Prof. Vincenzo Gerbi, Full Professor of Food Science and Technology at the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Food Sciences of the University of Turin.

The relationship between wine and health is a delicate topic, deeply felt by producers and very current, especially in light of the latest OMS report on the risks associated with alcohol consumption, the green light from the EU to health messages on bottles and the new rules on wine labeling. Furthermore, the growing awareness of the risks of alcohol is causing a reduction in consumption, especially among young people, which has contributed to determining the current crisis in the wine industry.

Even in the world of medicine there are opposing opinions: if, on the one hand, there are numerous studies that demonstrate the benefits of moderate wine consumption for cardiovascular health, on the other hand, there is no shortage of voices in the scientific debate that highlight the carcinogenic effects of alcohol.

The aim of the meeting will therefore be to clarify in order to transmit correct information to consumers, avoiding the entire sector being demonized, with the intent of bringing attention back to the positive and social side of wine, away from media fears.

Dr. Giacosa and Prof. Vincenzo Gerbi, moderated by Giancarlo Gariglio, Curator of the Slow Wine Guide, will therefore try to offer an authoritative and prejudice-free point of view, answering the producers’ questions, with the aim of giving life to a constructive debate.

Program:

  • 5:00 pm: visit to the host winery
  • 5:50 pm: introduction
  • 6:00 pm: dialogue between Dr. Attilio Giacosa and Prof. Vincenzo Gerbi. Moderated by Giancarlo Gariglio, Curator of the Slow Wine Guide
Followed by a friendship dinner at a restaurant associated with the Strada del Barolo

Participation in this meeting is also open to wineries not associated with Strada del Barolo, but, since places are limited, priority will be given to members, who are guaranteed a reduced participation fee.
To participate, you must register using the membership form: REGISTRATIONS CLOSED
