European project SCALA

The Strada del Barolo e grandi vini di Langa is the leader of the European project SCALA – Co-designed Strategies for Adaptation and Fight against Environmental Change, funded under the Interreg ALCOTRA program and developed in collaboration with the French partner Agora Guier.

The project, lasting 18 months, aims to address environmental and climate challenges through an innovative approach based on participatory design, a method that enhances dialogue and the collective construction of solutions, where every citizen can contribute with their own ideas and perspectives.
The project activities will involve three main target groups: 1) Students, with an awareness-raising program on environmental issues, encouraging active participation in sustainability strategies; 2) Agricultural operators, addressing the issue of the challenge of climate change and the impact on agricultural practices; 3) Tourism operators, with whom we will reflect on a responsible tourism model and the adoption of sustainable management practices.

SCALA is developed through four main actions, aimed at building concrete strategies for adapting to climate change:

  • Mapping environmental issues and stakeholders, to identify the most relevant realities and understand the dynamics of mutual impact on climate change.
  • An analysis of good practices of environmental sustainability in cross-border territories, which will serve as a basis for developing a dedicated manifesto.
  • A co-design process based on the co-design methodology, involving the two territories to develop shared solutions that respond to common needs.
  • The collective writing of a manifesto, the result of discussions between stakeholder representatives, to promote strategic and sustainable management of cross-border rural territories.

The project also includes the promotion of a competition and the creation of communication materials, actively involving schools to stimulate the interest and participation of students in the cultural and social life of the territories.

The project represents a unique opportunity for Strada del Barolo and for the territory, positioning itself as a pilot project that combines innovation, participation and sustainability. The initiative will not only help build concrete solutions for climate change adaptation, but will also offer new opportunities for growth and collaboration for local entities.
