Etna and Barolo look together to the future of Fine Wines

February 3-5, 2025: a delegation from Strada del Barolo and the Alba International White Truffle Fair Authority will be guests in Sicily for three days of discussion and dialogue between tours, tastings and round tables

After last November’s trip to the Langhe area, honoring the invitation of the Strada del Barolo e grandi vini di Langa and the Ente Fiera Internazionale del Tartufo Bianco d’Alba, the Consorzio di Tutela dei Vini Etna DOC will host its “Barolisti” colleagues in Catania and on Etna.

Three days, from February 3 to 5, during which the producers will dialogue and exchange views through round tables, tastings and tours of the volcanic territory. The dates chosen for this twinning were inspired by the desire to allow guests to enter the atmosphere generated by the famous Feast of Sant’Agata, patron saint of the City of Catania, and to fully enjoy the natural beauty of a snow-capped Etna rich in history and biodiversity.

An exchange, this, that preludes future opportunities for collaboration and intersections of vision between the two territories that are symbols of the national wine system.

First appointment Monday 3 February at 4:00 pm at the Sal di Catania, in via indaco 23, with the round table “The future of Fine Wines”, a meeting reserved for professionals, producers and journalists, to explore the issues that concern the current state of health of the world of wine, addressing a reasoning common to the two territories on the future of “Fine Wines” of which both are testimonials and a well-known expression of Italian viticulture.

The round table will be moderated by the journalist Michela Giuffrida and chaired by the representatives of the two denominations, who will discuss with intuition and necessary analysis, in a moment of economic crisis in which critical issues emerge for the decrease in wine consumption. At the center of the debate not only the loss of purchasing power of the consumer, especially young people, and the recent European policy with trends hostile to the world of wine, but also a focus on the advent of dealcoholized and “low-alcohol” wines and the fear of suffering the limitations imposed by the new highway code and duties from the US market.

A moment of awareness that aims to underline the objective quality, the ability to arouse emotions and curiosity and the economic, environmental and social sustainability of wine, as well as its importance in the circular economy of our nation.
