A unique name for an amazing place: the ‘Cascina del Monastero’ ties its uncommon name directly with its history, because the original farm belonged to the Benedictine monastery of Mercenasco, run for 300 years by the monks of Saint Peter of Savigliano.

Located in the heart of Langhe, in the Annunziata area, Cascina del Monastero continues to honour the name ‘Luciani’, which comes from ‘luce’ (‘light’ in Italian), since it is always totally exposed to the rays of the sun.

The hill at the back of the company hosts 15 “Piedmontese days” (an ancient unit of measurement) of vineyards, at an altitude of 250 metres above sea level and on a clayish chalky soil.

The forefather, Alessio Grasso, found a suitable heir in his grandson Giuseppe, who, today, runs the company together with his wife Velda. Both hope to give, one day, the helm to the children Loris and Giada, the last descendants of a family devoted to the land of Langa. In fact, during the years, Giuseppe, with huge efforts and hard work, has extended the ancient farm, providing it with a new cellar where many machines, at the cutting edge of technology, used to produce wine.

Moreover, for 20 years, ‘Cascina del Monastero’ has also offered farm holidays. Inside, one can admire the expert hand of Velda, who seems to have absorbed the ancient art of hospitality from the Benedictine monks who once lived here. It is her, in fact, who guides visitors along a path made of taste, flavours and perfumes seen as essential parts of the Langhe traditions.

To complete the frame, there are also ten rooms, furnished in the ancient style, each one different from the next, which can be perfect for those looking for peaceful and quiet moments. The destiny of Cascina del Monastero is an ancient one, already written in the history. From Alessio Grasso to the present day, this place has undergone expansions and improvements without changing its spirit. On the contrary, every modification has been able to adapt the ancient facility to the needs of a modern company which produces prestigious wines.

Barolo “Bricco Luciani” produced by grapes from the “Cru” Bricco Luciani in the Annunziata region. This Barolo ages in small French barrels, where the wine rests for one year and is then transferred into oak barrels of Slavonia for two years. Finally, it is then moved into bottles for one year.

Barolo Annunziata, ages in the cellar for three years in order to become what is considered the King of Wines.

Langhe Nebbiolo D.O.C. with its deep ruby red, comes from a one-year aging in oak barrels and presents floral perfumes and a fruity taste.

Barbera d’Alba “Vigna Parroco”, derives its name from the vineyard where its grapes are grown and whose grape varieties are more than 40 years old. This wine ages for 15 months in French barriques and then rests another year in bottles.

Dolcetto d’Alba Superiore whose grapes come from the vineyards of Roddino d’Alba, more precisely the vineyard named “Siri”. This wine ages in small oak barrels for about 8 months, followed by 6 months in a stainless steel container and then another aging period in bottles.

Barolo Bricco Riund, with its shiny garnet-red together with orange flecks typical of its aging. The refinement is obtained by resting two years in French barriques and tonneaux (first some months in barriques, then in tonneaux and then again in barriques), then a year in oak barrels and finally more than a year in bottles.
