“Io, Barolo la nuit” proves, again, to be a success: almost one thousand wine lovers in Roddi for the 2012 Barolo

Strada del Barolo celebrated its first 10 years of activity with an event that involved a diverse public coming from different Italian regions and beyond.

It ended with general enthusiasm the fourth edition of the lucky event that, in the background of the stylish and cosy Castle of Roddi (CN), celebrates the new vintage of Barolo together with the producers who, with their work, continue to make this great wine. Almost a thousand were the cup holder pockets that Strada del Barolo distributed yesterday evening, Saturday, May 28, to the many wine enthusiasts arrived in the small Langa village to taste in advance the 2012 Barolo vintage.  The public was mainly made by young people and coming from different regions of Italy: a sign that this event is becoming, year after year, more and more significant and that today is capable to bring economic benefits for the community.

“We are all very satisfied: this event for the Barolo promotion gets to the heart of the people, as evidenced by the many tastings, the smiles and the interest of the many young people who enjoyed our wine and are learning how to understand the real value of Barolo” says the president of Strada del Barolo Lorenzo Olivero. “Io, Barolo – continues the director Daniele Manzone – proves to be an opportunity not to be missed to “rejuvenate” the image of this wine in its own territory,  completing an action that, as Strada del Barolo, we also carrying out abroad. In fact, with this innovative type of event, informal yet elegant and upscale, we are able to attract the attention of an audience made of careful and respectful wine lovers.”

Since this edition coincided with the tenth anniversary of Strada del Barolo and the fiftieth anniversary of the recognition of the D.O.C. for the Barolo wine, this fourth edition was enriched with some interesting side events: at 5:30pm, as a preview of the event, a Wine Tasting Experience® led by the sommelier Sandro Minella and the food and wine expert Davide Pagani with a selection of the best Piedmontese wines presented for a tasting together with Parmigiano Reggiano and refined cold cuts from the cities of Parma and Piacenza. At 8:30pm it was the turn of “The Barolo challenge”: a “challenge” to the last stem glass between two municipalities belonging to the production area of Barolo, Monforte d’Alba and Verduno, organized in collaboration with “WineZone” and led by the sommelier Mario Bevione. In addition, the event was used as a set to shoot the last episode of the talent show Sukulan Suojatit (“The protected of Sukula”), which will be broadcast in September by the Finnish television.

Heart of the event was, as usual, the castle garden, with a great tasting table to taste as many as 32 labels of the 2012 Barolo coming from all the municipalities belonging to its production area: until 10:00pm the audience spent a lovely evening in the garden, in a cheerful and relaxing atmosphere, exchanging opinions on producers, labels, the different “crus” and appreciating the many expressions that this magnificent wine can have.

After the closing of the garden, the celebration continued until the late evening in Piazza Umberto I, with the musical entertainment of the Jazz Rock group Gregor Kay  and the other great wines of Langa, served throughout the entire evening paired with a selection of the territory local products.

The event was organized by Strada del Barolo e grandi vini di Langa, with the contribution of Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo, under the patronage of Associazione per il Patrimonio dei Paesaggi Vitivinicoli di Langhe-Roero e Monferrato, and thanks to the cooperation of Comune e Pro Loco di Roddi, Turismo in Langa, Centro Grafico, Wine Zone, Consorzio per la Tutela del formaggio Robiola di Roccaverano D.O.P., A.S.D.
